Deathship One - Epsilon Room
"What the hell just happened in there!?!?" screamed Sgt. Stryker.
"They're dead! They're dead!" sobbed Pvt. Henney.
"May God have mercy on their souls while we're still in Hell." whispered Rev. Lacey.
"Jumping Jehoshaphat, we're still stuck here!" said Pvt. Barton.
The team appears in a new room. That room was Epsilon Room, one with shifting walls. Every event phase, a random section of the enclosed room in the upper right corner would open. This really sucks as you run your team to an opening to only have it close when they get there. You're a mean one Mr. McCullough. There's a reason I like your games.
The team started to move out and hope for the best. They were all bleeding badly and very tired. This was because the medic, Cpl. Smith, was killed in the last room. There was no healing between the rooms.
At first, things were going well. The team moved as a group on one side of a wall so they only had to deal with 3 Riegers and 1 Dreykl.
The 3 Riegers were quickly dispatched, but having the Dreykl still there was very frightening as they have a ranged attack.
In the event phase, two more Dreykl appeared in the upper right corner, but they were still behind the walls, and couldn't interact with me. A wall section opened up in the lower right portion of the closed room.
And the Dreykl ranged fear was quickly realized as Pvt. Barton was shot dead. I'll give you a bit of foresight...he wouldn't be the only one to die in this room.
The rest of the Riegers and other Dreykl move up on the team. The situation wasn't looking good for the squad. They were quickly outnumbered.
Sgt. Stryker kept firing his machine gun, but his nerves were shaken. He wasn't hitting any targets.
A Rieger made it into hand to hand combat with Pvt. Henney. The Pvt. was unprepared for the monsters assault and he went down in a bloody mess.
"Sir! Look! The wall has closed!" yelled the Sgt.
In the event phase, the opening in the wall closest to the team closed, and the furthest section opened. This was pretty much the death sentence for the squad. They would have to fight it out and hope they were lucky.
More Dreykls appeared and were able to take shots at the team. The good Reverend Lacey fell to the energy bolts. This left Sgt. Stryker as the only squad member left.
His hands were still shaking too much to aim properly. He never hit anything. And a Dreykl was able to take aim and dispatch the Sgt.
In a dark room, somewhere else on the Deathship, a being spoke. "These creatures were stronger than we expected."
"Yes. We expected our forces to kill them sooner. We were wrong." responded another being.
"Prepare the next group of creatures. Let's see how they do..."
This was a fun campaign to play. Deathship One is a great, quick system. You don't need a lot of models or terrain to have a great game. My middle-tech squad of OSS WW2 soldiers lasted until the third room. I have a low-tech and high-tech team ready to give the ship a try.
Well, there is a reason it's called the Deathship! Great write-up.
