AAR 2 - The Missing Informant

The Reverend Lacey got notified that one of his informants went missing.  He and his commandos went to the small village to investigate.  Once they got there, they knew things weren't right.  There was no one in the village.  It was completely deserted.  The houses were all locked up as if the whole village decided to move away.  What could have scared them so bad to leave everything behind?

I played the Scenario 1: Deserted Village from the main Rangers of Shadow Deep rulebook.  I didn't need to make any changes to the scenario to work with Airborne of Shadow Deep.  Instead of the group looking for another ranger, it was an informant.  I left Aventine's sword in the scenario.  I figure it will work fine in the Weird War 2 setting.

And on with the report...

The commandos arrived at the small village and started looking around.  There wasn't anything special about the village.  Some houses surrounded a central area, and copses of trees around the whole village.

While the troopers were looking around, they noticed some movement just outside of the village...

Sgt Stryker: Zombies!  Those are just things of lore and little kids stories!
Rev. Lacey:  Sergeant, I assure you, that those "kids stories" are based in reality.
Pvt. Henney:  Why I'll be damned!
Rev. Lacey:  Private, I hope you're not.  We have work to do.

Pvt. Henney tries to enter one of the buildings.  It's a blacksmith's cottage.  He slams into the door with his shoulder and bounces off.  While nursing his now bruised shoulder, he checks to make sure no one was looking.  Unfortunately, Cpl. Smith was watch.  I'm sure the Corporeal won't let the Private forget it.

Pvt. Barton tries to open a door to an empty building.  Luckily for him, it opens easily.  The building is dark inside and nothing is moving.  The Private enters to investigate things further...

A wandering zombie starts heading towards the middle of the village.  Some of the troops there are prepared for it, and others aren't.

Cpl. Smith climbs up on the car to get a better advantage point with his sniper rifle.

Maj. Lacey started to investigate a local copse of trees.  But he didn't notice the giant rat that's hiding behind the building.

Once Pvt. Henney enters his building, he quickly regrets it.  Lurking among the ruble is a zombie.  The zombie quickly engaged the Private in a hand to hand fight.

Lt Williams headed out to investigate the outskirts of the village.  While doing this, a giant rat came out of hiding and attacked him.  The Lt. was able to kill the giant rat, but the rat was still able to bite him.

Shortly after the attack, the Lt. started to feel woozy and sick.  (He ended up getting diseased by the giant rat.)

A wandering zombie was able to get into contact with Sgt Stryker and attack him.

The fisticuffs between the Zombie and the Sergeant was pretty brutal.  Unfortunately, the Zombie was able to wail on Sgt. Stryker.  This badly injured the Sergeant.  Pvt Barton, while watching this battle, came to the Sergeants aid...

...and was also ruthlessly attacked by the Zombie.  (Both Sgt. Stryker and Pvt. Barton rolled horribly against the Zombie.  The Zombie rolled high and just inflicted a massive amount of damage on them both.

With a loud rumble, one of the buildings in the village collapses.  Luckily, no commandos were inside.

Major Lacey, while searching a group of trees, discovers a mauled body.  He's quickly able to figure things out and determine what killed the villager.

The Rev. Lacey spots a zombie heading towards Pvt. Henney.  The Reverend says a prayer and is able to crush the zombie with his faith.  (The Rev. used Magic Missile.)

The Lt. gets ready to take down a Zombie.

Pvt. Barton uncovered a special chest.  What's inside wont be determined until all the zombies have been dealt with.

The Major fires at a Zombie but failed to bring it down.

Sgt. Stryker discovered the informants body hidden amongst some trees.  With a quick cursory search, the Sergeant discovers what appeared to be a short sword.  The sword appeared to be giving off a soft glow and was warm to the touch.  That's pretty strange...  (This is Aventine's magical sword.  I felt it would fit in with the setting, so I left it as such.)

Cpt. Ryker and a zombie face off against each other.

Lt. Williams discovered a person hiding in the trees.  It seems this isn't a regular villager.  The Lt. is able to coax the person out once all the zombies have been sent back to the grave.  Hopefully the zombies will stay there this time.

Once all the Zombie's were dispatched, the commandos headed back to their base to check things out...
