First battle AAR 1 - Scouting out Umbra Adâncă
I got my first game play in of Airborne of Shadow Deep. I had a great time and really enjoyed the game.
I played a modified Mission 2, Scenario 1 from the Rangers of Shadow Deep rulebook. I removed the river from the scenario, and changed the camp to the cemetery.
I've replaced all the references to "Gnolls" with "Nazis" in the Bestiary. I did combine the Gnoll with the Gnoll Archer. I figured since we're using rifles, the Archer would be the best to keep.
Major Lacey and his Commandos arrived in Romania and started scouting out Umbra Adâncă. They were moving silently through the town when they spotted a group of Nazis in a cemetery. This seemed pretty odd, so the team decided to move in and take a closer look.
The Nazi Sergeant needed to relieve himself and decided to pee next to a statue outside the cemetery gate in Umbra Adâncă. Little did he know, Maj. Lacey and his Commandos were hiding just around a wall next to the towns church.
Cpt. Ryker, Pvt. Henney, and Pvt. Barton moved up on the other side of the church to hide from the Nazi Sergeant. They got into a good firing position to take on all the Nazis in the cemetery.
Eventually, the Nazi Sergeant was caught "with his pants down" and quickly eliminated. Lt. Williams moved up to the statue to scout out the cemetery and see what other forces were there.
But, little did he know that the remaining Nazis were alerted to the commandos presence. The Nazis quickly moved into position and get some good lines of fire established.
Another Nazi soldier moves up and takes aim at Lt. Williams.
A Nazi soldier sneaks up around a house to get the Captain and Privates in his sights.
The Reverend Lacey, knowing that God was on his side was able to use the power of God (magic bolt). He quickly dropped the Nazi soldier that had heavy cover by a far wall. This helped relieve the stress on Lt. Williams. (If you look at the wall next to the far house, you'll see the model just barely peeking out the end of the wall.)
Cpl. Smith breaths in slowly, takes aim, and shoots a Nazi standing just inside the cemetery gates. The Corporeal was able to get a head shot and dropped the Nazi like a dead weight.
The Nazi that snuck up on the Captain and Privates had some amazing luck and quickly put Pvt Henney and Pvt Barton out of action.
While paying attention to the fighting by the cemetery, Pvt. Barton was shot and dropped to the ground. No one knew if he was alive or dead. Pvt. Henney, seeing his boyhood friend fall, turned and fired at the Nazi, but missed. The Nazi quickly took aim at Pvt. Henney and dropped him too.
Captain Ryker, seeing these two young men who completely trusted him, get shot, whirled around and started shooting back at the Nazi soldier. The Nazi got hit a few times, but was still able to stand. The Nazi shot back and hit the Captain.
The Captain eventually took down the Nazi. But Cpt. Ryker had taken some hits and was in pretty bad shape.
Sgt. Stryker came running around a corner and shot a Nazi soldier right in the chest.
Both Lt. Williams and Major Lacey take on the last Nazi soldier. But the soldier was pretty sly and was able to keep standing through the hail of bullets.
Eventually, Lt. Williams, Cpt. Ryker, and Major Lacey was able to take care of the last opposing Nazi. It wasn't easy, but they were successful.
The commandos quickly left the battlefield once all the Nazis were dispatched. They dragged the bodies of Pvt. Henney and Pvt. Barton to a safe area. It was there that the team realized the Privates were OK and would make a full recovery.
All figures are from Warlord Games except the Nazi Sergeant. He's from AE-WW2 by Blackball Games
